Why is Tailgating so Popular?
Tailgating has become one of the great pastimes associated with sporting events and sports culture. It has spread in popularity and now encompasses both college and professional sporting events. In many instances the fun of tailgating even eclipses the game itself. There are many reasons why tailgating is so popular today, and if you haven't experienced it for yourself yet then you have been missing out.
One of the reasons why tailgating is so popular is that it offers a chance to gather with friends and family members in a fun and pressure free setting. Everyone attending a tailgating event is there to have fun, therefore there's nothing to stop everyone from unwinding and having a good time.
When you go tailgating, most people end up cooking some great tasting food, whether it's made ahead of time or grilled onsite. Of course, people have been known to indulge in a few beverages as well. It's all part of the fun and of the experience, and sharing it with your fellow supporters is the best way to prepare for a big game.
Another great aspect to tailgating is that you get to be around people who share the same interests and passions as you do. Not only will you be around fans of the same sport that you're a fan of, but you'll be around a massive group of people all rooting for the same team as you do. This can be a very powerful situation, as everyone's passion feeds off the passion of every other fan in attendance.
The crowd around you is covered in the team's colors, many people are face painted or adorned in other interesting costumes and everyone is rooting for the team to win. It's a thrilling atmosphere, and there are few other situations that are quite like it. Tailgating is like a high school pep rally taken to the extreme, in the best way possible.
The environment inside a stadium is different from the tailgating that's done outside the stadium prior to the event. Inside, everyone is focused on the game itself. Additionally, despite your hopes, the home team may start getting the worst of things on the field. However, when you're tailgating outside, it's nothing but hope, cheering, support and fun. There's nothing to bring you down and there are no reality checks or disappointments. What you're left with are good times with friends, family and fellow fans.
Tailgating is something that can be enjoyed by anybody, from any walk of life. If you're going to a college game, you can be a current or prospective student, an alumni member or simply somebody who lives in town or is passing through. The same applies to professional sporting games, whether you're a diehard fan or just a friend tagging along with one, you're sure to have a great experience.
Clearly there are many reasons why tailgating is so extremely popular today. For some fans, tailgating is the main event and the game itself is nothing but a secondary attraction. So find a game, prepare a few tasty treats and delicious drinks and prepare for a great and unique time.
